Did You Know Australian Showjumper Shane Rose Appeared in a Mankini at a Public Event?

Australian showjumper Shane Rose suffered expulsion from the competition after showing up in a mankini at a Sydney horse show.

Rose, a three-time Olympian medallist, has apologized for whatever offense his outfit choice at Wallaby Hill’s fancy dress party last weekend may have caused.

Rose hasn’t been suspended, according to the governing body, but worries over his unusual clothing led Equestrian Australia to assess the situation.

At the event, when riders were encouraged to dress in character, the fifty-year-old showed up in three different outfits. Rose arrived at the arena decked out in a Duffman outfit inspired by the Simpsons and a gorilla suit, inspired by the exposing swimsuit popularized by Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy character Borat.

 

Rose is hoping to compete for his country again in the Summer Olympics in Paris after winning bronze in 2016 and silver in team events at the Olympics in 2008, 2020, and Paris.

 

He expressed his hope that the event wouldn’t interfere with his Olympic training while also expressing a wish for a speedy resolution to the problem.

 

Darren Gocher, the CEO of Equestrian Australia, stated that a grievance was lodged regarding Rose’s attire and the presence of kids at the function.

 

Rose’s removal from his position did not sit well with certain members of the equestrian club. In a show of brotherhood, several individuals have updated their Facebook profile images to Borat, and many have posted posts endorsing the rider.

 

Later, an apology from Rose through his Facebook post came in a statement such as;

“I took part in this fancy dress competition with the aim of pro­viding lighthearted entertainment for those in attendance,” which was later deleted. In another statement, he apologized for his choice of clothing for the event as it was never his intention to offend anyone.

 

The CEO, Gocher claims that Rose has not been suspended but has been “stood down” while we evaluate the situation and consequences that follow such actions. And while they are handling this matter Rose is expected to stay down.

But such a statement has raised the danger of other members supporting Rose and they might even follow in his footsteps.
