During a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump was abruptly escorted off the stage after gunshots were fired into the crowd.

He was presenting a chart on border crossing numbers, reaching towards his neck as blood appeared on his face.

He quickly ducked behind the riser as Secret Service agents moved in to protect him.

The crowd of thousands was in chaos, with screams heard as the gunfire continued.

Live microphones captured the Secret Service agents’ communications as they worked to secure Trump: “The shooter is down. Are you ready? On you, move! We’re clear!” Despite the immediate danger, Trump raised his fist in the air to chants of “USA! USA!” from the crowd as he was led off the stage. Police began evacuating the fairgrounds once Trump had left.

The Secret Service later confirmed via Twitter that they had implemented protective measures and that the former president was safe.

Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldfinger reported that one person in the crowd was dead, with a possible second fatality.
